I work mainly on recovering commercial debts owed by insolvent or bankrupt companies in a range of industries including construction, seafood, electronics, energy, agriculture, and international trade. Because the firm's clients usually have a national or international footprint, most of my cases are in federal district courts nationwide. This has allowed me to eat Mexican food in Tucson and barbeque in Birmingham, while also branching out into other areas of federal practice like intellectual property and civil rights cases. I have maintained an active practice in New York since 2007 and California since 2011, but have also litigated cases in eleven of the twelve federal circuits.
I am involved with various bar associations and was nominated President of the Irish American Bar Association of Los Angeles in 2022. I am also a former Secretary of the Administrative Law Committee of the Bar Association of the City of New York. I have written articles for trade credit publications and spoken to trade groups about legal strategies in dealing with insolvent companies.
I graduated from one of Ireland's top two law schools with First Class Honors (summa cum laude) in 2005. Because law is an undergraduate degree in Ireland, I am one of very few attorneys with no postgraduate education. I became a U.S. citizen in 2021 and live near the courts in downtown Los Angeles with my rescue dog. In my free time I am an avid surfer, cyclist and skier, and a reluctant dog-trainer and e-collar evangelist.
